SPEECH AND LANGUAGE
Speech and language pathologists provide assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and education/training for individuals with language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. Maria has worked with children and adults with different abilities and medical diagnosis.

Receptive and Expressive Language
Receptive Language looks at what a person is able to understand such as language concepts, following directions, grammar rules, and recalling information
Expressive Language is how language is used in means of communication. It looks at person's vocabulary, sentence structures, and story-telling.
Pragmatic Skills
Play- Include the ability to engage in play activities adequate for their developmental age. It also helps strengthen their listening and pre-linguistic skills (e.g., joint attention, turn taking) that are essential for their communication skills.
Social- includes the ability to follow social rules when engaging in social interactions such as turn taking, identifying the size of a problem and creating a solution, maintaining conversations and topic maintenance.
Alternative Augmentative Communication
Alternative communication and Augmentative communication helps others communicate in their daily routines. This may include the use of pictures, signs, and even technology.
Feeding and Swallowing
Looks at the person's medical conditions and special needs to improve their ability to tolerate, chew and swallow variety of foods. Therapy helps them improve their feeding skills and achieve safer swallowing.
Early Intervention
Services are provided to children birth to 3 to help their family and them support their language, play, social, and cognitive skills.
Speech Disorders
This is an umbrella of different difficulties a person may have such as: apraxia, phonological disorders, articulation, and fluency. It looks at a person's placement, sequence, coordination of speech mechanism, and timing when producing speech.

Therapy Sessions
Families and caregivers are encouraged to be active participant in the session to help with generalization of skills. Based on the evaluation results, a treatment plan is developed and implemented to address specific speech-language difficulties. We use evidence based practice strategies and resources in our therapy session to improve our clients skills.
Evaluations
July 12, 2025
The speech-language pathologist will use a variety of tools to determine child's strengths and weaknesses in the areas of communication including speech articulation, fluency, receptive, expressive and pragmatic language, and, feeding skills. The assessment will include a parent interview, review of past records including health information, developmental milestones and previous assessments when applicable, formal standardized measures, informal assessment, and observation.
Consultation
Consultation Virtual and In person
Consultation consist of a 60 minute session that provides parents with different strategies and support to use with their child during their daily routines. The session contains a play observation, language sample, parent interview to discuss developmental milestone, strength and weakness, concerns, and medical history.
